Becoming God

Becoming God is a spiritual offering and a testimony of return. Written during Faheemah’s Ìyáwóraje, the sacred year of devotion that follows initiation into priesthood in the Lucumí tradition of Ifá, this book confronts the lies of white supremacy that taught Black people to fear our spiritual gifts, ignore our Ancestors, and forget that we came to earth with the answers. 

Raised in Islam, Faheemah often felt alone as she navigated the call to witness God in a different way. Through personal reflection and Ancestral messages, she shares her journey of unlearning and remembering, as she came to accept her destiny as a Consort of Spirits and a living vessel for her Baba Ògún. A reconciliation and a truth-telling, Faheemah offers her story as a guide for others who are ready to embrace who they have always been, while questioning the systems that shaped their beliefs. Through her examination, she creates a clear path to embodying the sacred by re-indigenizing the self. 

More than a book, Becoming God is an invitation to Africana people across the diaspora to reclaim our birthright, honor the spirits who walk beside us, and embrace the understanding that Blackness, at its root, is holy. It is a call to freedom and a bold declaration of truth: That it is only through embracing our indigenous spiritual traditions that Black people can win the fight for freedom, and to do that, we must accept that we do not merely worship God, we are God, both the Creator and the Created.
